St Mary and St Paul's CofE Primary School is a small, friendly one-form entry primary school in Prescot, Merseyside, rated Good by Ofsted.

This gives prospective candidates a valuable opportunity to learn from teachers who have recently completed their initial teacher training journey and can offer first-hand insight into the realities of becoming an effective and confident classroom teacher.

Our school experience day is designed to give you a realistic and engaging insight into life as a primary teacher.
You will spend most of the day in one of our classrooms, from EYFS through to Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. You will have the opportunity to:
• Observe a range of lessons and see what a typical day in a primary classroom looks like.
• Interact with pupils and support learning activities.
• See how teachers create an inclusive environment where all children can flourish.
• Meet experienced teachers, many of whom trained through the Mersey Boroughs ITT Partnership SCITT, as well as current trainee teachers completing their training in school.The day will begin with a warm welcome and an opportunity to meet a member of the Mersey Boroughs ITT Partnership team. As the SCITT training centre is based on our school site, you will gain understanding of our Primary 3-7 and Primary 5-11 QTS with PGCE programmes.
Our aim is to provide a welcoming experience that helps you decide whether teaching is the right career for you, through the supportive and close-knit culture that makes both our school and Mersey Boroughs ITT Partnership so special.

We believe that to gain the greatest benefit from a well-rounded school experience, candidates should spend a full school day with us (8:30am to 3:30pm). This allows visitors to experience the full rhythm of school life, from welcoming children at the start of the day through to home time to gain a realistic understanding of the role of a primary teacher.
However, we understand that this may not always be possible, and in some circumstances start and finish times can be discussed and agreed on an individual basis.

St Mary and St Paul's CofE Primary School is the lead school for the Mersey Boroughs ITT Partnership (MBITT), with the SCITT training centre based on our school site.
MBITT is a well-established and highly successful school-centred initial teacher training provider, working with schools across Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Warrington to offer a truly school-based route into teaching.
We offer both Primary 5-11 and Primary 3-7 teacher training programmes, leading to the award of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with PGCE.
Our partnership shares a clear vision:
"To develop well-prepared, motivated, reflective and inspiring new teachers, leading to improved education for pupils across Merseyside and beyond."
We believe outstanding teachers are developed through high-quality training, expert mentoring and genuine care for each individual trainee. From the moment you apply, you become part of a close-knit partnership where your professional development and wellbeing are equally valued.
We are proud that our recent Ofsted inspection recognised the exceptional support available across the partnership. Ofsted reported that trainees are "universally positive about the support they receive for their wellbeing and the impact of training on their professional practice" and are highly sought after because of their professionalism and readiness to teach. Inspectors also noted that "trainees speak in glowing terms about the impact of the teaching they receive."
Ofsted further recognised the strength of the partnership culture, stating:
"Trainees are extremely proud to be part of this close-knit partnership. Relationships between staff and trainees are exceptionally strong. Trainees know that SCITT leaders care about them and want them to be well prepared for the demands of teaching."

Placement availability
We offer in person school experience placements during term time throughout the school year. Subject to numbers, specific dates can be discussed with individual candidates on application.
Subject to a candidates availability we suggest a continuous five day block of attendance will provide a rounded experience.
