About our school experience
We offer a full day's experience so that you get as much as possible from your visit.
This is open to anyone who is considering training with the Rural Schools Alliance and has not yet accepted a training place with another provider.
Typically you'll have the opportunity to:
- observe some lessons in your chosen subject across different year groups
- tour the school
- chat with a member of the Rural Schools Alliance team about training and the school-led route
- meet with current trainees
You'll be greeted at reception and guided around the school during the day. At break and lunch, you'll be taken to the teacher training hub so that you can ask any further questions.
We operate a cashless catering system so please bring your food for the day, along with a water bottle. You can refill your bottle and use the free hot drink machines during breaks.
If you have any questions following your visit or would like to visit again, we're happy to help.
Please note - our offices are open during term time only. If you contact us during the school holidays we will reply when school reopens.
- Start and finish times
08:15 to 15:00
Whilst our school day is from 08:15-15:00, we understand that you may need to start later or finish earlier. We're happy to discuss alternative timings with you when we arrange your visit.

Swanmore College is the lead school for the Rural Schools Alliance - an established Teaching School partnership of Hampshire secondary schools based in rural communities. Our locations are all within an easily commutable distance from Andover, Fareham, Waterlooville, Winchester, Southampton, and Portsmouth.
We work with the University of Winchester to deliver a quality teacher training programme, which is bespoke to trainee needs.
All student teachers are initially registered for the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and on completing the School Direct course gain ECT (Early Career Teacher) status.
