About our school experience

Details

The Bitterne Park Teacher Training Alliance is pleased to offer school experience visits to individuals who may be considering a career in teaching. These events will run from 9.10am to 2.30pm and during your visit you'll have the opportunity to drop into some lessons in your chosen subject area and also find out more about our teacher training programme.

School experience is a vital part of your teacher training application and the majority of training providers require you to have it. Getting some classroom experience can also help you to decide whether teaching is right for you. It will strengthen your application and prepare you for potential interviews.

Teacher training

Bitterne Park School is the lead school in the Bitterne Park Teacher Training Alliance, a growing partnership comprising a diverse range of secondary schools across Hampshire and Wiltshire which present dynamic and exciting training possibilities for those wishing to pursue a career in teaching. Our School Direct training programme is one-year course, delivered in partnership with the Universities of Southampton, Winchester and Chichester which leads to a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) as well as contributing towards a Master's level qualification. We feel our programme combines the best elements of a traditional university-led PGCE training model with the benefits of a school-centred approach. Our partner universities have a long-established record of excellent initial teacher training.
