Frederick Gough School
Our motto is “Try your best, be nice and you’ll do well” and this forms a strong foundation of expectation for pupils and staff alike in all they do.
Whilst our academic and behavioural processes create our framework for an organised, well-functioning school we understand the power of positive relationships with each other and the wider community and the need for flexibility in order to genuinely meet every child’s needs. Our school aspires to ensure that all students are able to achieve their full potential and the greatest access to a wide range of destinations facilitated by quality first teaching and learning, have the knowledge, skills and qualities to play a full and active role in shaping and participating in future society, can contribute to the development and direction of the school and are members of a fully inclusive and happy school which is the centre of the community for learning, development, support and recreation. We understand that the best results a child can achieve will result in the best destination opportunities but this would mean little without preparing our children to be confident, resilient and at peace with their place and role in 21st century Britain.
About our school experience
- Details
- In order to see teaching and learning at its best, we encourage all staff to go and see each other teaching through low stakes drop-ins. Our staff are incredibly open and you will see that whiteboards are used in the vast majority of our lessons so that we can gauge how much pupils are learning and tailor our lessons to pick up on any misconceptions that arise. We have embraced Rosenshine (as common sense teaching and learning) and have developed a coaching system between teaching staff and a whole school CPD programme to ensure this has the maximum impact. Our motto with staff is support, support, support and this has enabled a culture where all staff feel comfortable and are willing to help their colleagues. Around the school site, you will find that pupils are friendly and polite, holding open doors and greeting staff enthusiastically. We use the National Institute of Teaching through DRET to take our ECTs through their two year induction, as well as holding our own bespoke in-house induction programme. We work closely with other ITT providers such as the North Lincs SCITT, Sheffield Hallam University and Bishop Grosseteste and other ITT providers.
