Northampton Academy
Northampton Academy is an 'Outstanding', non-selective academy serving the eastern district of Northampton, with 1,700 students from ages 11-18. As part of United Learning, our aim is to bring out the 'best in everyone'. We pride ourselves as an Academy of Character and Excellence and provide opportunities for students to secure excellent academic outcomes as well as develop their character through an extensive Character Development Programme.
Northampton Academy is proud to partner with United Teaching, an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ teacher training programme. As a national provider, United Teaching’s ambitious teacher training programme is driven by a research-informed curriculum preparing trainees for the demands of modern teaching. Our school visit experience is an invaluable taster opportunity to experience quality first teaching and learning in action.
With subject specialists, dedicated mentors, and top-rated wellbeing support, United Teaching support trainees to make the teacher training journey one to remember with a fantastic support network, and nationally recognised professional qualifications so trainee teachers can enter their Early Career Teacher years with confidence. The United Teaching ITT supports trainees to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding to become the teachers of tomorrow and the education leaders of the future.

Join us for an immersive teaching experience at Northampton Academy. The day will include the following:
1. A tour of our school and experience a broad community of staff and students
2. Lesson observations to gain insights into high expectations, classroom culture and different teaching techniques
3. Opportunities to engage with students in a classroom setting
4. Opportunities to meet school leaders to gain valuable insights into the ethos and culture of the school

8.50-8.55: Arrive at Northampton Academy
9.00-9.10: Introduction to Northampton Academy: School overview and context
9.10-9.40: Tour of the school building – Learning walk with Professional Tutor/SLT
9.40-10.35: Lesson Observations: Opportunity to observe 2/3 teachers including one within own subject area.
10.35-11.05: Break and refreshments. Potential to shadow Pastoral team on duty if appropriate.
11.05-11.25: Observe tutor reading programme
11.30-12.15: Debrief and “Get into Teaching” presentation
12.15: End of day - Start and finish times
