William Hulme's Grammar School

William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) is one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country and the most over-subscribed school in Manchester. As an all-through academy, we educate over 1,600 pupils aged 3–18, representing a rich mix of abilities, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Our ethos is built on high expectations and inclusivity, ensuring every child has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

WHGS is proud to partner with United Teaching, an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ teacher training programme. This partnership offers trainees a research-informed curriculum and exceptional support to prepare for the demands of modern teaching. Our school experience programme provides a unique opportunity to observe teaching across all phases—from early years to sixth form—giving prospective teachers a rare insight into the full educational journey.

With experienced subject specialists, dedicated mentors, and a strong culture of collaboration, WHGS supports trainees to develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed for a successful career. By joining us for a school experience day, you will gain invaluable exposure to high-quality teaching and learning in a thriving, all-through academy and take the first step toward becoming an outstanding educator.
