Richard Rose Central Academy

Central Academy is a 'Good', non-selective academy in Carlisle, Cumbria with 1,051 students from ages 11-18. As part of United Learning, our aim is to bring out the 'best in everyone' and we continuously strive to ensure that students and staff have every opportunity to do so.

Central Academy is proud to partner with United Teaching, an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ teacher training programme. As a national provider, United Teaching’s ambitious teacher training programme is driven by a research-informed curriculum preparing trainees for the demands of modern teaching. Our school visit experience is an invaluable taster opportunity to experience quality first teaching and learning in action.

With subject specialists, dedicated mentors, and top-rated wellbeing support, United Teaching support trainees to make the teacher training journey one to remember with a fantastic support network, and nationally recognised professional qualifications so trainee teachers can enter their Early Career Teacher years with confidence. The United Teaching ITT supports trainees to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding to become the teachers of tomorrow and the education leaders of the future.

About our school experience

Details

Join us for an immersive teaching experience at Central Academy. The day will include the following:

A tour of our school and experience a broad community of staff and students

Lesson observations to gain insights into high expectations, classroom culture and different teaching techniques

Opportunities to meet school leaders to gain valuable insights into the ethos and culture of the school

Q&A session to ask questions about a career in education, teacher training and United Teaching

Learning walk with member of SLT/ Professional Mentor/ Curriculum leader

9.40-10.45

Lesson Observations

Opportunity to observe 2/3 teachers for 10 mins each with at least one observation being subject specific

11.45-11.00

Debrief/ Q&A

Either T&L lead/ Professional Mentor/ Principal/ Subject Leader (if appropriate) – 15 mins

This can include delivering the presentation on ‘applying to train to teach’ (provided in the template resources)

Additional activities could include:

Meeting with current/ graduate trainees

Observing a school assembly/ tutor time

Observing break/ lunch

Start and finish times
9.00am to 11.30am - Flexible

Please arrive at 8.50am for a 9.00am start and the session will end at 11.30am

Business dress, Cover up tattoos, Remove piercings
