Tonbridge Grammar School
We are a high achieving selective grammar school with academy status, educating girls between the ages of 11 and 16 and girls and boys in the Sixth Form.
As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, we blend the best of a traditional curriculum with the principles and ethos of the IB Organisation. This offers our students opportunities to learn in breadth and depth in order to develop as well-balanced individuals. They become active learners and are encouraged to be passionate about making a difference in the world.
The School prepares students for GCSEs and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. In addition to an extensive curricular timetable, our students take part in an extensive range of extracurricular activities.
About our school experience
- Details
-
TGS is able to offer school experience for an initial day in most subjects. The days will include observations of lessons and the chance to discuss teaching with a range of teachers.
Follow up days may be offered for an agreed duration ( 3 days for general applicants and up to 10 days for eligible candidates who intend to apply for an ITT place at TGS). A DBS is preferred for follow up visits to allow student shadowing or similar (this is not provided by the school). - Start and finish times
-
08:30 to 15:40
- Flexible
A typical day at our school consists of participants arriving by 8:30am and signing into the main reception. Their ID and DBS documents are checked and they are given a lanyard with a specific colour so staff know who they are. They are then asked to stay in reception while they read the Safeguarding Guidance. They are handed timetables and meet their Subject Link. Official lessons start at 8:50, but we ask them to come earlier as this gives them time to meet the department staff and other people on the course.
The participants will observe lessons and also have free time in order to discuss teaching as a career, and complete tasks that will help them in the interview process. Individual timings can be arranged with candidates in advance.
