The Mirfield Free Grammar
The Mirfield Free Grammar is a successful and ambitious secondary school for students aged 11 to 18, serving the local community in Mirfield, West Yorkshire. As part of Great Heights Academy Trust and a valued partner of AA Teamworks SCITT, we play an active role in supporting and developing the next generation of teachers.
At The Mirfield Free Grammar, we are committed to providing a high-quality education that enables every student to achieve their potential. Our dedicated staff work hard to create a culture of high expectations, strong relationships and academic excellence, ensuring that all students are supported to succeed both in and beyond the classroom.
If you are considering a career in teaching, a school experience visit offers a valuable opportunity to see secondary education in action, meet staff and students, and gain first-hand insight into life in a busy secondary school.
About our school experience
- Details
-
You will observe teaching and learning across a range of subject areas and key stages. You will see how teachers engage students, build positive classroom cultures and adapt their teaching to meet the needs of diverse learners. You will gain an understanding of the wider responsibilities of teachers and the day-to-day life of a secondary school.
There will be opportunities to speak with experienced teachers, subject leaders and, where available, current trainees and former AA Teamworks SCITT trainees who are now employed within the school. This will provide you with a realistic and informative perspective on both teacher training and the teaching profession.
As a large secondary school, The Mirfield Free Grammar offers visitors the opportunity to observe specialist subject teaching, explore the transition from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4 and, where appropriate, gain an insight into sixth form education. You may also see how staff support students with additional needs, promote high standards of behaviour and create an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.
Before your visit, we will discuss your interests and aspirations so that, wherever possible, your experience can be tailored to the subjects and aspects of teaching you are most interested in exploring.
