School profile

The Thomas Aveling School

The Thomas Aveling School was formed in 1990 with the merger of two existing schools Warren Wood School for Boys and Warren Wood School for Girls. Since its inception, the school has grown from strength to strength. The school is consistently over-subscribed; with high quality teaching, excellent facilities and impeccable standards. Our emphasis is always on maintaining a positive attitude as we believe that a happy atmosphere has a marked impact on achievement.

Trainee teachers are an integral part of the Thomas Aveling success story and we regularly train over 25 aspiring teachers annually in a wide variety of subject areas and training pathways. Whilst we have strong links with local universities and their teacher training courses, we believe that the School Direct Teacher Training programme is the most practical and effective route into teaching and we are delighted to be a leading school offering the School Direct Teacher Training scheme via the Medway Valley Training Partnership.
Thomas Aveling has, for many years been a leading school experience provider and we have regular experience days with planned activities with an opportunity to share your experiences in a supportive atmosphere with other delegates. The quality of the day is regularly praised by our visitors as being the most helpful starting point for their future teacher training application. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

About our school experience

Details

The school experience is a whole day opportunity for anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher to observe/ participate in lessons of your chosen subject. The purpose of the day is to give you a real insight as to the life of the teacher. You will be given a set of observation tasks which are then discussed with the school's Professional Teacher-Training Tutor in the afternoon. We will talk about what you have seen and what you have learnt from the experience. Hopefully, the attendee will be able to use the experience to support their personal statement for an application to a teacher training course.

We do not expect attendees to undergo a DBS nor do we charge a fee for the visit. We look forward to seeing you soon.
