School profile

Bosworth Academy

The school opened in Desford as Bosworth Community College in 1969, replacing the former Grammar School located in Market Bosworth. In 2003, the College was designated as a Specialist Sports College and the school became an Academy on April 1st 2012, having previously been a Leicestershire Upper School and Community College.
Since its beginning, Bosworth Academy has been a mixed comprehensive Upper School catering for the 14-19 age range. In September 2014, the Academy began the transition to becoming an 11-19 school. We have the benefit of a very rich, diverse catchment area stretching from the Warwickshire border to Leicester City. Many students also join us from beyond our immediate catchment and 90% of our students arrive by bus.
In October 2017 an Ofsted inspection team judged Bosworth Academy to be an ‘Outstanding’ school in every area of the Ofsted framework. This is the result of the dedication, loyalty and driving passion from our highly professional team. As the latest report states, the teaching and support staff ‘want to excel’ going the extra mile to improve the pupils’ life chances under the guidance of highly effective leaders.
There have been many magnificent performances across our wide range of GCSEs, with many students now beginning A level study at Bosworth Academy. Bosworth Academy has a policy of challenging all students to ‘be better than they thought they could be’ by raising the aspirations of every learner. As well as success measured in grades we are confident that our young people leaving Bosworth have many valuable attributes to contribute to their communities and future employers; their empathy and support for others, their capacity for moral leadership, their ability to work as part of a team or to take the initiative, as well as being thoughtful, kind and tolerant.
