School profile

The Mendip School

We are a school for pupils aged 4 to 19 with a primary diagnosis of autism (ASD) and speech language and communication needs. Our staff and governors are focused on supporting pupils and families to achieve the best possible outcomes. We work with a range of other professionals to ensure the needs of each child can be correctly identified and we can support each individual and prepare them for adulthood.

There is a happy and positive atmosphere in which children can fulfil their potential and grow in self-confidence and develop the resilience and perseverance to overcome individual challenges. The Mendip School is a great place to be and we are proud of the pupils and staff who have cultivated an ethos of respect, trust, enjoying life and learning. Students are taught in small groups, usually with more than one member of staff in attendance where we aim to provide a high quality, relevant and balanced education for all our pupils.

We are incredibly proud of our school and we hope our website provides you with a greater understanding of what life is like in The Mendip School. If you would like more information, please get in touch with us.

About our school experience

Details

We want all of our pupils to leave education as independent as they can possibly be in a fulfilling paid job or supported employment. Preparing pupils to be responsible, caring citizens who are independent and curious about the world ensures that they develop the self-esteem and resilience they need to share their voice and feel heard.

In order for our pupils to reach their full potential our curriculum is broad, balanced and aims to create an educational experience that prepares pupils for adulthood. Our curriculum is unique and bespoke to each learner and is based on existing knowledge and skills.

Our focus is supporting our pupils to make connections with the knowledge learned in school with real life situations and first-hand experiences. You would be able to fully immerse yourself in the day to day life of a special school, observing teaching, behaviour support and learning more about the life of a teacher.

Our pupils represent a very wide range of abilities and in response the curriculum provides a number of pathways that lead to a variety of post school destinations such as college, work or supported employment.
