The Charter School East Dulwich

Welcome to The Charter School East Dulwich - We are an inclusive, dynamic and academically rigorous secondary school serving the vibrant communities of East
Dulwich and South Camberwell.

The school curriculum is built around the powerful knowledge found not only in academic subjects but also in the creative and expressive arts.‍
All students study at least to GCSE level. The school curriculum builds methodically on the foundations laid in primary school. It is coherently sequenced to provide all students with the opportunity to progress to the next stage of their education, be it academic, professional or vocational. The curriculum is made ‘desirably difficult’ for all students. Every individual receives the right combination of support and challenge to achieve their personal best, irrespective of background or personal circumstance. The school makes generous provision for a range of enrichment activities through which students further develop the individual interests and aptitudes that allow them to flourish. The curriculum explicitly encourages students to have confidence in themselves, care for each other and their environment, be curious about the world and have the courage and creativity to change it for the better.

Teacher training

London South Teaching School Hub is a lead partner with Roehampton University offering initial teacher training across our highly successful schools in South London.

This postgraduate qualification gives you the tools to build a successful career in teaching while providing a holistic view of the profession; you will look at the child, curriculum and teacher.

The course will build your confidence in the classroom, your understanding of the wider role a teacher plays and provide you with all the subject knowledge to effectively teach the full curriculum to all age groups of primary school children.

You will be based in a host school for 32 weeks of the year, which will enable you to develop strong relationships with your school mentor who will oversee your training. You will attend lectures and seminars at Roehampton University throughout the year.

You will be assigned a tutor from Roehampton who will support you with both the practical and academic elements of the course. You will also be part of a large cohort of trainee teachers in South London.

We get to know each trainee and offer excellent pastoral support throughout your journey to becoming a teacher. Our diverse cohort of present and past trainees are always on hand for peer support and advice.

Our team are on-hand to support you through the application and interview process. If successful, we carefully select a host school that you will grow and thrive in as you train. We strongly recommend coming along to one of our online information events to meet us in person and to ask any further questions you might have.
