Gomer Junior School

Gomer Junior School caters for pupils aged 7-11 (Years 3 to 6). It is located in the town of Gosport, close to Stokes Bay. The pupils are taught in classes of approximately 30 pupils and there are two classes per year group. Gomer Junior School is a future-focused School. We are relentless in our ambition to enable the success of our learners and staff. This is reflected in our vision statement –‘Learning Today for the Challenge of Tomorrow’. Our aim at Gomer Junior School is that every learner is given the opportunity to succeed and make excellent progress through enjoying and engaging in rich, diverse and challenging learning experiences.
The school is proud of its wide and varied curriculum which includes sessions dedicated to STEM learning. Notably, our gSTEM approach won the prestigious TES award for team of the year in 2018. The school is also an accredited ‘Beach School’ and makes good use of local resources to further the pupils' learning experiences. Gomer is also renowned for its musical and sporting prowess, possessing the Gold Games Mark and the Music Award Mark.

About our school experience

Details

Each school experience day runs from 8:50am to 3.15pm. Approximately two weeks prior to your day, you will receive an email with joining detail, a request for electronic copies of your ID and final confirmation of your attendance.
On arrival, please report to the main school reception, where a check will take place against the ID you have sent over electronically (part of our safeguarding procedure). Lunch can be ordered on arrival (for a small charge) or you are welcome to bring your own. You will be escorted to the class/classes you are visiting for the day. The rest of the day will be spent observing lessons either within the class or across the school. An optional proforma will be provided to record observations, thoughts and reflections. During morning and lunch break you are welcome in the staffroom. Mobile phones are not permitted in the classrooms and confidentiality and discretion with any information shared regarding pupils and staff, is of high importance to ensure the safeguarding of the school community.
At the end of the day staff members may be available if you have any further questions/reflections on the day. We hope you will have an enjoyable and beneficial experience.

Gomer works in partnership with Bay House, which is a School Direct Lead School (Winchester University) and with the Halterworth School Direct Programme, is part of the HISP Teaching School Hub, in partnership with Coastal Alliance (Crofton School) and offers PGCE placements (Portsmouth, Southampton & Chichester Universities.
