Winterbourne Academy is a vibrant and highly successful academy set in a rural location in South Gloucestershire. It is the largest secondary school in the county.
Our aim is to ensure the academic, personal and social development of every student in our care so that they move to the next stage of their lives ready to succeed in whatever path they choose. We refer to this as ‘empowering all to excel’ and you will see this vision at the heart of everything we do.
We are incredibly proud to lead a highly effective team of professionals whose objective is to provide a profitable, healthy, creative and enjoyable learning experience for every student. Winterbourne Academy offers a considerable range of CPD opportunities, within a friendly and pleasant work environment.
About our school experience
The day begins with a briefing to set you up ready for your time in the classroom. You will be directed to look for specific aspects of the lessons that will help you in your application for a PGCE training place.
There then follows 3-4 hours of observations in a range of classes.
At the end of the day we have a Q&A / debrief session to allow you to reflect on your experience during the day. In this session we also cover any questions you have about the different routes into teaching; the application process; qualifications needed and any general questions you have about teaching.
You are expected to bring photo ID and be dressed smartly. No DBS is required. The day usually begins at 9.15am and is finished by 3.30pm. We provide lunch. There is a small, non-returnable fee of £15. Anyone interested in teaching is welcome.
