We aim to develop our systems to meet one core purpose – to inspire confident learners who will thrive in a changing world.

Melbourne is a friendly village school, catering for children aged between 4 and 11, situated in the Parish of Melbourne in the East Riding of Yorkshire. There are approximately 165 pupils on roll, with the majority of pupils coming from the villages of Melbourne, Everingham, Bielby and Thornton. We also currently have pupils from East Cottingwith, Pocklington, Ellerton, Market Weighton and beyond.

Our school is set in extensive, attractive grounds that provide our children a wonderful place to not only play but learn about the world around them. We encourage our children to become confident life-long, learners and to achieve high standards in everything they do. Children who leave Melbourne are well rounded, motivated, knowledgeable, independent individuals prepared for an exciting future on their educational journey.

About our school experience

• Details: You will have an opportunity to observe lessons and see different groups being taught, and you will be invited to interact with the children when they are working on tasks during the lessons.Information on how you can apply for our ITT primary teaching programme, will also be provided.
• Start and finish times: 8.20 to 3.00 - Flexible

  A starting time of 8.20am is essential, so you can meet staff before our lessons commence at 8.30am. We are able to accommodate you if you require an earlier finish.

• Teacher training:

  We run a School Direct ITT courses in Primary Education for Early Years and in Primary Education 5 - 11 in partnership with Leeds Beckett university.
