Sir Thomas Wharton Academy
Sir Thomas Wharton Academy is a growing and ambitious secondary school that serves over 1000 students from the community of Edlington and surrounding areas.
As part of the Maltby Learning Trust, we have secured significant improvements, having most recently been judged as a ‘Good’ school in our September 2021 OFSTED inspection. Maltby Learning Trust is an organisation driven entirely by the desire to provide an exceptional education; as part of this aspiration, STWA strives to become a leading educational establishment in the country.
Our vision is to deliver exceptional learning experiences that enable all young people to thrive in a competitive world and lead successful and fulfilling lives. To achieve this, we are fortunate to benefit from an exceptional building that provides a vibrant, well-resourced learning environment, which is highly flexible to meet the needs of all learners.
Experiences beyond the classroom are key to developing character and whilst academic outcomes will open doors, we recognise that it is very often a person’s character that secures further opportunities. We pride ourselves on the extensive enrichment programme we provide for all students and work hard to create memories that will last a lifetime.
About our school experience
- Details
-
A school experience at Sir Thomas Wharton Academy will allow you to gain a sense of our Academy day, from Single Point Entry where we support students with their uniform, to tutor time where students develop their knowledge of life skills and partake in votes for schools, to lesson time where students enjoy exceptional learning experiences.
We will provide you with a range of lessons to observe across the Academy and also ensure that you have an opportunity to see our alternative provision that is a key part of our vision to ensure all young people thrive and succeed in our Academy.
You'll shadow a member of our pastoral team to get a sense of how the wider welfare system connects with home and supports students to fully invest in their learning.
You would join in with our Wednesday afternoon elective programme where Key Stage Three students are taken off timetable to partake in an enriching experience of their choice. We have over thirty electives every Wednesday varying from sewing, animal care, rowing and trampolining.
